  • Not Sure Who We Are

Not sure who we are and what we stand for? Let us introduce ourselves!
Doctors Without Borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. MSF was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra (part of present-day Nigeria). Their aim was to establish an independent organization that focuses on delivering emergency medical aid quickly, effectively, and impartially. MSF was created on the belief that all people should have access to healthcare and that people's medical need outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF now has over 36,000 staff and is a non-profit, self-governed organization. MSF is neutral and does not take sides in armed conflicts and provides care on the basis of need.

In the Spring of 2017, MSF established the Student Chapter Program at universities in the United States. Founded in the Fall of 2019, The Doctors Without Borders Student Chapter at Auburn University: Friends of MSF aims to do the following:
    - Raise awareness and knowledge about MSF's work in the field and about humanitarian issues.
    - Encourage students to consider working with non-governmental organizations, such as MSF, post-graduation.
    - Support MSF in advocacy campaigns.
    - Raise money for MSF, their work in the field, and specific campaigns.
    - Actively engage the Auburn University student body at large (no specific college or major required) to learn about and become engaged with global humanitarian issues and crises.
